How to Choose an Eco Friendly Resort
Posted on 13. Oct, 2009 by Oksana Irwin in Good Home Living, Travel and Nature
This summer, if you are traveling green or planning on vacationing at eco friendly places, be sure to do a little research before booking — as many resorts claim to be eco friendly but aren’t.
Here are some notes for you to take when choosing an eco friendly resort:
* A true eco resort imposes minimum impact on the environment and local culture
* It should employ the use of solar energy, compost toilets and have an environmentally sensitive water source
* The majority of the staff should be local. A true eco resort brings economic benefits back to the community
* The ground should be site-sensitive to reflect the indigenous landscape – a thriving green lawn in a dessert climate is a red flag
* Make sure that activities stress education and conservation and are led by qualified guides
* And don’t forget about the food — a good eco resort supports the local grower and fishermen by creating seasonal menus
So if eco travel is in your future just do a little homework and you’ll be sure to separate the pros from the cons.
Happy travel!!!
