Best Haunted Places to Go in Calgary

There’s just something about the dead leaves, chilly weather, and full moons that gear people up for the fun and frights of Halloween in Calgary. I happen to be quite the thrill seeker myself, and so as soon as October rolled around, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work in putting together a list of places that were highly rated for spooky activities!
Screamfest @ C.O.P – http://www.screamfest.ca – $15 to $20
Enjoy a quiet, relaxing and elegant evening at the Canadian Olymic Park. Everything from “Bug Eating”, “Buried Alive”, and “Lucifer’s Madness” – to visiting Norman Bates’ motel. Did I mention that there’ll be zombies too? Oh yes, a quiet evening indeed.
The Dean House Restaurant – http://www.fortcalgary.com/deane.htm
Not only recognized for its delicious food and fun Murder Mystery Nights (which you should definitely attend, because they’re a lot of fun!) – the Deane House Restaurant also has a few ‘haunting’ stories floating around it.
Many of the serving staff claim to have experienced some form of paranormal activity during their time at the Deane House. Some recall hearing laughter in the front foyer, however upon checking, seeing no one there. In the area of the house re-made to look like Mr. Deane’s study, individuals have seen an image of a man sitting in the chair, smoking a tobacco pipe. Additionally, tobacco can be smelt although the entire house is non-smoking.
Also in the study area is an antique phone that has been heard spontaneously ringing, although not plugged in. Certain servers have become accustomed to this and state they simply go about their work, as they are aware the phone is “not for them.”
Instances of loud, banging footsteps have been heard from the top floor, as well as a variety of paranormal activities occurring in the attic.
Legend has it there is a bloodstain in the attic that changes in size, and reappears regardless of the number of times it has been washed. The reddish brown stain does in fact exist in a closet in the attic and staff members have said the closet containing this stain is always open, as the door will not remain locked even after continuous attempts.
One evening, during a Murder Mystery Dinner theatre held at the Deane house, a woman ventured into the basement to look for clues as to who was the alleged “murderer” of the play. She complained of an encounter with an old Native man, who informed her that she was on sacred ground and did not belong there. Upon returning upstairs, the women told the staff, who, in turn, went to the basement and found no one.
These are just a few tales of the alleged Deane House ghosts.
Want to see a great movie? Paranormal Activity @ Scotiabank Theatre Chinook
A movie that has successfully kept me awake in bed, which is virtually unheard of. Need I say more?

Check out the attic at the Deane House. It is not so much the attic as it is the tall green antique chair that nestles itself in the corner of the room, gaping at the opening from which you climb the stairs. It is just a very looming feeling. It’s not the attic itself we felt as much as it was the presence of the green chair….wondering the history of the green chair or where it came from?!

I’ve heard about that chair too, Amy, and while I couldn’t find any information on it, you can always check out http://old.capi7.ca/Historic/Deane/deane.htm for some fun reading on what Calgary’s Association of Paranormal Investigations found.
